At year end 2016 the province of Tyrol, city of Innsbruck and the Austrian Olympic Committee (AOC) had a feasibility study drawn up as the basis for the decision on a possible bid of Austria with Innsbruck/Tyrol for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2026. The results of the study were presented today (21.06.2017) at a joint press conference in Innsbruck.
This study by the consortium PROPROJEKT and AS+P together with the project partners Management Center Innsbruck (MCI) and SOLID – Event Management + Consulting GmbH is a comprehensive basis for further decisions. In particular, the core areas of sports infrastructure and competition venues, housing, transport and traffic, the environment and sustainability as well as the financial framework were analyzed. The results of the study are unambiguous and provide a very good testimony for a potential application.

Volunteers are always an important pillar of major sport competitions worldwide and shape the face of every event. Berlin 2018 will also be shaped by volunteers – and the application phase for volunteers has started. A total of more than 2,000 volunteers are being sought. The available roles stretch from transportation, visitor services, accommodation, accreditation and sport to media and protocol.
For the implementation of the volunteer program, Berlin 2018 is working with SOLID – Event Management + Consulting GmbH. Among other things, the company played a key role in the delivery of the Winter Youth Olympic Games Innsbruck 2012 and provided consulting for volunteer management at major events such as the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships St. Moritz 2017.
Frank Kowalski, managing director of Berlin 2018 declared: “The volunteer program has a very high priority in our preparations. Our volunteers will be the face of this European Athletics Championships throughout the city and in the stadium. Especially here in Berlin they are sure to bring a great feel-good factor to visitors and athletes with ‘heart and snout’ as we say Berlin.”
The 24th European Athletics Championships 2018 will take place 7-12 August 2018. For the first time they will be held in the Berlin Olympic stadium and on the streets of the sports metropolis Berlin (walking and marathon). Berlin 2018 will be part of the inaugural multisport European Championships with co-hosts Glasgow featuring aquatics, cycling, gymnastics, golf, rowing and triathlon.
